Every year, the fashion industry uses a massive amount of oil, to the tune of 342 million barrels according to a 2017 Ellen MacArthur Foundation study, to produce synthetic materials for use in apparel and accessories. MCM is committed to meeting aggressive sustainability goals and a big part of this is re-thinking the materials we work with.
MIRUM® is consciously crafted in Illinois by the pioneering biomaterials company NFW, who use natural ingredients including rubber, agricultural waste fibers, and plant-based oils, pigments, and minerals. As well as being beautiful and durable. MIRUM® has a dramatically lower carbon footprint than conventional leather and synthetic alternatives.
Some versions of MIRUM® even feature ingredients that enhance biodiversity and regenerative soil systems. This is a way to prioritize local communities while meeting multiple sustainable development goals as a truly Earth-conscious material.
That’s why we are so proud to produce the MIRUM® Capsule Collection, the result of a two-year creative design process that has reimagined our Himmel Shopper in the most sustainable leather alternative we’ve ever used, marking a major step forward in eco-conscious luxury.
The capsule comprises two sizes of the timeless MCM design crafted from a naturally luxurious, 100% plant-based and recyclable material, and we hope to include MIRUM® in more future releases.
